CHR Director Lucy Savitz Takes on New Leadership Roles

In addition to running the Center for Health Research, Lucy Savitz, PhD, MBA, continues to pursue volunteerism and leadership opportunities at the local and national levels. In recent months, Dr. Savitz:

  • Was elected to a three-year term on the AcademyHealth Board of Directors. AcademyHealth is the preeminent national organization for health services researchers, policymakers, and health care providers and stakeholders.
  • Joined the National Quality Forum’s Healthcare System Readiness Committee, a new multi-stakeholder group charged with helping the U.S. improve its emergency preparedness by defining and addressing readiness at the health system level.
  • Received a grant establishing CHR as a Learning Health Systems Center of Excellence. The award, from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, supports the training of researchers at 11 institutions to conduct patient-centered outcomes research within learning health systems. The Center for Health Research is partnering with Oregon Health & Science University in this effort.
  • Joined the board of directors for Meals on Wheels People, a nonprofit that serves hot meals at dining centers in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, as well as Meals on Wheels service to homebound seniors. The Portland Business Journal noted Dr. Savitz’s new role in its “People on the Move” feature.

 

Richard Mularski Promoted to Clinical Professor at OHSU

Richard MularskiRichard Mularski

Richard Mularski, MD, MSHS, MCR, has been promoted from Associate Professor to Clinical Professor in the Oregon Health & Science University Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Mularski is a senior investigator at CHR in addition to practicing pulmonary and critical care medicine at Kaiser Permanente Northwest (KPNW). He is also the director of Research and Evaluation for Northwest Permanente, serving as a liaison between CHR and the KPNW delivery system and fostering collaboration between researchers, quality improvement teams, and clinicians. 


 

CHR Director’s Speaker Series: David Savitz

CHR recently welcomed David Savitz, PhD, to Portland as part of our ongoing Director’s Speaker Series. Dr. Savitz comes from the Brown University School of Public Health, where he is a professor of epidemiology, serves as associate dean for research, and holds joint appointments in obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics. He is widely recognized for his epidemiological research, which addresses reproductive and perinatal health within the context of environmental health in the workplace and community at large.
