GEMS

GEMS is a collaborative research trial conducted by Kaiser Permanente and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. It is funded by the National Cancer Institute. It is designed to help people make informed choices about their health.

The GEMS app is only intended for use by participants in the GEMS study. This app is not intended for the general public. App activation and use requires an access code and verification of participants’ identity. Invited participants must install and set up the GEMS app to complete their study enrollment.

Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting the privacy of GEMS participants and their data. For a complete summary of the steps taken to protect participant privacy, please refer to the consent information sheet provided when you agreed to join the GEMS study.

Data you share in the app may be saved to your phone and shared with the GEMS research team. App data will be encrypted before it is shared with researchers. Information provided will only be used for research.

To further protect your privacy, we recommend you not share highly personal information in the app and use a PIN or other security feature (such as Touch ID or Face ID) on your phone. App users may receive GEMS-related reminder notifications. No sensitive information will be included in these reminders.

Data Retention & Deletion

Data collected for this study will only be used for the purposes of the GEMS study in accordance with the terms agreed upon participant enrollment. Data retention and management will conform to all applicable regulatory requirements including those specific by the National Institutes of Health, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and Institutional Review Board approval. For more details on the approved plans for data retention & deletion for this app, please refer to the consent information sheet provided when you agreed to join the GEMS study.
