October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we'd like to share some helpful information with you and the women in your life, along with an opportunity to contribute to cancer prevention research!

According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the U.S., after skin cancer. Approximately 1 in 8 women (13%) will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Although there are many unanswered questions about what causes breast cancer, research has shown that getting regular exercise lowers breast cancer risk.

Screening tests, such as mammograms, are key for early detection. Detecting and treating breast cancer early are important factors for survival.

Kaiser Permanente Northwest has partnered with the NCI on the Connect for Cancer Prevention Study (Connect). Connect is a research study that aims to learn more about what causes cancer and how we can better prevent it. Our goal is to improve health for our members, communities, and future generations.

Connect is still enrolling new participants! To learn more, visit the Connect website: cancer.gov/connectstudy.
