Prevent HPV Cancers

Research

PREVENT

Practice-based Approaches to Promote HPV Vaccination in the Safety Net (PREVENT), is a National Cancer Institute funded study that incorporates formative patient- and clinic-informed research to design and evaluate an automated data-driven reminder intervention using low-cost approaches (automated phone calls and text messages). PREVENT’s design and evaluation will involve tailoring message mode and content for parents/caregivers of rural and ethnically diverse rural patients.

PEER

PEER, Multilevel Peer-to-Peer Education Program to Increase HPV Vaccinations and Wellness in School Based Health Centers has been submitted to the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities. PEER proposes to work with School Based Health Centers to improve health equity and health outcomes. Too few people are vaccinated for the human papillomavirus (HPV), which can prevent tens of thousands of deaths from cancer each year. Our program will evaluate a multilevel intervention to increase HPV vaccination and the use of School Based Health Centers for primary and preventive care.

STEP-2

Self-Testing for Cervical Cancer in Priority Populations: the STEP-2 Trial project, has been submitted to the National Cancer Institute. Partnering with the University of Washington, this project will test a multilevel intervention to increase cervical cancer screening, by implementing self-sampling in clinics and through a mailed outreach program. This project seeks to improve cervical cancer screening rates among women in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), working with stakeholders to develop effective messaging and reminders.
