Frederick H. Heidel

Biography:
Heidel taught art at Biarritz American University, Biarritz, France; Long Beach
City College in California; and University of Oregon. Heidel served in long
association with Portland State University, where he was both professor and
chair of the department of art and architecture. Heidel's subjects were mostly
landscapes, painted with a warm palette; his later works were characterized by
intense color and expressive form. By 1968 Heidel turned from painting to
laminated constructions in glass.
