Dr. Jack Hollis has more than 20 years' experience and leadership in disease prevention and health behavior. He has been the principal investigator on four large studies, funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), on integrating systematic anti-tobacco intervention into the routine delivery of medical care.
He now leads an NCI Cancer Prevention Research Unit (CPRU) that includes a test of an interactive computer program to reduce smoking among teens being seen for routine pediatric care. Other studies in the CPRU include ways to enhance population-based breast and cervical screening and computer-delivered nutrition interventions for use in medical offices. Dr. Hollis is also the principal investigator of a randomized trial comparing alternative state quit line policies. He has served as principal investigator on two large multi-center trials of behavioral interventions to prevent hypertension and a trial of behavioral intervention for periodontal disease. He was a co-investigator on a trial of brief interventions for problem drinkers in primary care.
Dr. Hollis received his PhD in social psychology from the University of Texas. He is a clinical associate professor at Oregon Health Sciences University in public health and preventative medicine.
